Cygnet SCADA Developer
Location: Downtown Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Six-Month Contract (with a possibility of extension)
Work Schedule: On-Site, Five Days per Week
Position Overview
Our client, an industrial automation and systems integration consulting firm, is seeking a Cygnet SCADA Developer to support a project for one of its end-user customers.
This individual will develop, configure, integrate, and support Cygnet SCADA applications used within pipeline and energy operations. The position requires a combination of SCADA application experience, technical troubleshooting skills, and an understanding of industrial automation, field communications, and real-time operational systems.
Although direct Cygnet experience is strongly preferred, candidates with applicable experience in other SCADA, automation, or electronic flow measurement data-collection platforms may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, configure, test, deploy, and support Cygnet SCADA applications.
- Create and modify operator displays, database points, calculations, alarms, scripts, reports, and system configurations.
- Integrate remote sites, field devices, PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, and other operational data sources with the SCADA environment.
- Troubleshoot application, database, communications, networking, and field-integration issues.
- Work with operations, engineering, measurement, automation, IT, and field personnel to define and resolve system requirements.
- Support real-time data collection, monitoring, alarming, visualization, and control functionality.
- Review project requirements and translate operational needs into effective SCADA solutions.
- Follow established database, display, naming, security, documentation, and development standards.
- Perform work in accordance with formal change-management and controlled-deployment procedures.
- Participate in system testing, validation, commissioning, deployment, and post-implementation support.
- Support Windows-based SCADA servers, workstations, services, and related application components.
- Diagnose issues involving TCP/IP networks, telecommunications, industrial protocols, and remote-site connectivity.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, system configurations, operating procedures, and support records.
- Manage multiple assignments and project priorities while meeting established deadlines.
- Communicate technical issues, project status, risks, and recommended solutions to internal teams and customer stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of experience supporting SCADA, industrial automation, or electronic flow measurement data-collection systems.
- Experience developing, configuring, integrating, or supporting a real-time operational system.
- Understanding of PLCs, RTUs, field instrumentation, measurement devices, and industrial communications.
- Experience troubleshooting application, data, device, network, or communications issues.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and server environments.
- Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking and telecommunications.
- Ability to follow controlled procedures, system standards, and formal change-management processes.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple concurrent assignments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with customers, management, engineers, developers, operations personnel, and field technicians.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related discipline. Relevant professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Ability to work on-site five days per week in Downtown Houston.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience developing or supporting Cygnet SCADA.
- Cygnet remote-site integration experience.
- Pipeline, midstream, oil and gas, or liquids transportation experience.
- Understanding of gas or liquids measurement technologies.
- Familiarity with pipeline operations, process-control automation, and basic pipeline hydraulics.
- Experience integrating PLCs, RTUs, flow computers, and remote field assets.
- Knowledge of industrial and SCADA communication protocols.
- Experience with electronic flow measurement collection systems.
- Microsoft Excel skills, including advanced spreadsheet functionality.
- SQL experience and an understanding of relational databases.
- Familiarity with Microsoft .NET, Visual Studio, or related development tools.
- Knowledge of PHMSA Control Room Management processes and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience supporting system testing, commissioning, and production deployments.
