Job Title: Canary Historian Engineer
Location: Remote – open to candidates anywhere in the United States
About the Role:
An established industrial technology integrator serving oil and gas, utilities, and manufacturing has more Canary Historian work than its current team can absorb, enough to keep a dedicated engineer fully engaged for the long haul. This is a hands-on individual contributor seat. You’ll be assigned projects with a clear scope and trusted to run them: own the customer conversation, keep the work on budget, and deliver a historian system that operations teams rely on every day.
What You’ll Do:
- Stand up, configure, and tune Canary Historian environments at both the site and enterprise level
- Connect field and control-system data sources through Canary collectors (OPC UA/DA, MQTT, SQL, Modbus) and set up Store & Forward for reliable delivery over unreliable links
- Organize tag data into asset models with Virtual Views and build KPIs with the Calculation Server and Events
- Create Axiom dashboards, trends, and Excel-based reports that operators and engineers actually use
- Serve as the main technical contact for your projects: lead status calls, collect requirements, and set clear expectations
- Track hours against the project budget and raise scope changes early
- Troubleshoot data gaps, performance issues, and connectivity problems in live production systems
- Document configurations and hand projects off cleanly to customer teams
What You Bring:
- Hands-on experience implementing or administering Canary Historian (Collectors, Views, Axiom, Calculation Server)
- Working knowledge of industrial data flows: PLCs/RTUs, SCADA/HMI, OPC, and MQTT
- Comfort working directly with customers, from operations staff to engineering managers
- Ability to manage your own projects with little oversight, including schedule and budget
- Solid Windows Server, networking, and SQL fundamentals
- Clear written and verbal communication
Nice to Have:
- Experience at a systems integrator or engineering services firm
- Prior customer-facing or consulting experience
- Exposure to other historians (AVEVA PI, Ignition Historian, Proficy). Not required.
- Familiarity with Ignition, CygNet, AVEVA System Platform, or Kepware
- Background in upstream/midstream oil and gas, utilities, or manufacturing
- Canary certification
