Electrical Engineer (Oil & Gas Operations & Projects)
Location: Houston, TX or Midland, TX
Overview
A leading midstream energy operator is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support both day-to-day operations and capital project execution. This role will be responsible for electrical system design, equipment specification, system reliability, and technical leadership across multiple facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the specification, evaluation, and selection of electrical and specialized equipment for operational improvements and capital projects
- Review vendor proposals and develop technical bid evaluations with clear recommendations
- Analyze and support the design of electrical systems including generation, interconnections, distribution, motor control, automation logic, lighting, grounding, and emergency systems
- Provide technical expertise through studies, written reports, and consultation related to electrical infrastructure and compliance standards
- Perform or oversee detailed power system studies such as short circuit, coordination, arc flash, motor starting, voltage drop, and load shedding analyses
- Ensure alignment with applicable safety standards, environmental requirements, and process safety management expectations
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and electrical classification documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and optimize system performance
- Oversee and review third-party engineering work to ensure consistency with internal standards and project requirements
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues across new and existing facilities
- Support project development through scope creation, cost estimating (including AFE-level estimates), and budgeting activities
- Coordinate and oversee field execution for smaller-scale projects, ensuring schedule, cost, and quality objectives are met
- Participate in technical forums and industry events, including occasional presentations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in industrial or energy-related environments
- Strong background in power systems, electrical distribution, and protective relaying
- Experience with motors, motor controls, protection systems, and variable frequency drives
- Proficiency with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM or equivalent) for analysis and troubleshooting
- Working knowledge of industry standards and codes (NEC, NFPA, API, etc.)
- Familiarity with maintenance strategies for electrical systems (preventative and predictive)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and leadership teams
- Understanding of contracts, technical proposals, and budgeting processes
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with control systems and automation
- Exposure to power generation systems or facilities

- This role requires a hands-on, self-driven engineer capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
- Travel may be required to support field activities and project execution
