Overview:
An established electrical power services organization is seeking a Field NETA Engineer to support installation, commissioning, and testing of high-voltage substation equipment across the Houston region. This role requires strong technical expertise and field experience to ensure reliable operation of critical electrical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of substations ranging from 69kV to 500kV.

Conduct diagnostic testing on power transformers, breakers, switchgear, relays, CTs, PTs, and related equipment.

Carry out protective relay testing, logic verification, and SCADA integration.

Utilize specialized equipment for testing including insulation resistance, power factor, contact resistance, SF6 gas analysis, and thermal imaging.

Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and field crews to ensure proper execution of testing and commissioning activities.

Document procedures, prepare test reports, and maintain updated schematics and records.

Ensure work is completed in compliance with industry standards (IEEE, NETA, ANSI, NERC, OSHA).

Support and promote safe work practices across all job sites.

Travel within the Houston area to customer facilities and project sites.
Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years of experience working in electrical testing, commissioning, or substation field services (degree not required).

Current NETA Level II or III certification, or willingness to pursue certification (company-sponsored).

Proficiency with testing equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Megger, or Fluke.

Solid understanding of relay protection schemes, high-voltage systems, and power distribution equipment.

Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay logic.

Knowledge of industry testing standards and practices.

Strong troubleshooting ability and capacity to work independently in the field.

Proficiency in common software tools (Microsoft Office; exposure to AutoCAD and relay software preferred).
Preferred Skills:
-
Experience with SCADA systems, substation automation, and relay programming.

Familiarity working with utilities, EPC contractors, or substation construction teams.
-
EIT or Professional Engineer license is a plus.
Additional Information:
-
All projects are based in the Houston area — no extended travel assignments.
