Job Title: DCS Controls Engineer
Location: Port Arthur–Beaumont, TX area
Job Type: Full-time
About the Opportunity
Our client, an automation and controls company with decades of experience on the Gulf Coast, needs a DCS Controls Engineer to work on-site at a large refinery in Southeast Texas. In this role you would own the day-to-day health of the plant’s Honeywell control system and the PLC and HMI equipment tied into it, working side by side with operators, maintenance crews, and engineers. It is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being the person the plant calls when a control issue comes up, and who wants steady work close to home.
Responsibilities
– Make changes to the Honeywell DCS, including control logic, operator displays, alarm settings, and trend setups
– Program and modify PLCs and HMI screens on packaged units and skids
– Troubleshoot control loops, communication networks, instruments, and console issues until the root cause is found
– Tie PLCs, SCADA, and the plant historian into the DCS
– Support control system upgrades, migrations, and end-of-life replacements
– Take part in checkout, commissioning, and startup of new or modified equipment
– Maintain accurate control documentation, including drawings and narratives
– Travel occasionally to other sites for startups or support
Requirements
– Hands-on Honeywell DCS experience (Experion, TPS/TDC, or similar) in refining, petrochemical, LNG, or another process industry
– PLC and HMI programming experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Delta
– 5+ years working in industrial automation
– Two- or four-year degree in an engineering, automation, instrumentation, or technology field
– Able to read P&IDs and loop drawings
– Lives in Southeast Texas or southwest Louisiana, or willing to relocate before a November start
Preferred
– Honeywell migration or upgrade projects
– Experience with Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or OPC communications
– Exposure to industrial cybersecurity practices
– ISA CCST or CAP certification
– Background with a systems integrator, EPC firm, or plant controls group
