Position Overview

We are seeking a mechanically focused Field Service Technician to install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair large industrial machinery at customer facilities throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region.

The ideal candidate has experience supporting heavy equipment in wallboard, gypsum, pulp and paper, material handling, or a similar continuous-process manufacturing environment. This position requires strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, a customer-service mindset, and the ability to lead fieldwork during planned maintenance outages.

Although the technician will eventually focus primarily on facilities within the assigned territory, travel outside the region may be required during the initial training period. Controls and electrical experience are beneficial but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair large industrial and material-handling equipment.
  • Provide hands-on mechanical support during equipment installations, planned outages, upgrades, and emergency service calls.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures and recommend practical, long-term solutions.
  • Lead field labor and coordinate service activities performed by internal technicians, customer personnel, and third-party contractors.
  • Provide technical guidance to ensure service work is completed safely and correctly.
  • Take responsibility for the safety, quality, schedule, cost, and productivity of assigned field projects.
  • Review equipment condition, service history, engineering information, and original equipment specifications when developing recommendations.
  • Communicate field findings, repair requirements, project status, and recommended next steps to customers.
  • Prepare service reports, equipment documentation, spreadsheets, and supporting project records.
  • Develop strong customer relationships and identify opportunities for additional repairs, upgrades, replacement parts, and service work.
  • Support the preparation of estimates, scopes of work, and service quotations.
  • Coordinate with engineering, project management, manufacturing, and commercial teams.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when required.
  • Follow all company, customer, and site-specific safety procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience working with heavy industrial machinery, manufacturing equipment, or material-handling systems.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, or repair experience.
  • Technical diploma or associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial technology, controls, or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent hands-on experience as a millwright, industrial mechanic, maintenance technician, field service technician, or similar professional will also be considered.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Comfortable working in active industrial facilities and around large production machinery.
  • Ability to lead field activities and coordinate customer or contractor labor.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently by vehicle and commercial airline.
  • Ability to provide occasional evening, weekend, or 24/7 emergency support.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining an effective member of a larger service team.

Preferred Experience

  • Pulp and paper mills or other continuous-process manufacturing operations.
  • Conveyors, material-handling systems, dryers, mixers, feeders, forming equipment, or related production machinery.
  • Planned shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance outages.
  • Equipment commissioning, installation, alignment, inspection, or startup support.
  • PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, instrumentation, or industrial control systems.
  • Customer-facing field service or technical sales support.

Travel Requirements

This is a field-based position requiring extensive travel throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey. Travel will include both driving and flying, with overnight stays based on customer and project needs. During onboarding and training, the technician may support customer locations outside the assigned territory.
